"When a man reaches a force he can not destroy... he destroys himself..."
Saorise closed her book and shook her head softly. Could that really be true? She set her book down in the grass and leaned back against the tree, she had been so lost in thought recently, her mind was wandering all over the place an she didn't quite know why. She sighed roughly and shook her head, trying to get the thoughts from her mind. It was like her world was crashing down on her, pressing into her. She was getting closer and closer to her "d-day" and it terrified her. Saorise lifted her hand and touched the neckline of her shirt, feeling the slight bump from the locket she carried with her at all times. Inside of it was a picture of her mother and father together, with her as a baby, and then on the other side was a picture of her sister, Sonja, the one who could have saved her. Was Risi beyond hope?
She licked her lips and sat forward slightly, hunching over her knees, having them pulled to her chest, her arms wrapped around them securely. She looked out at the breezy afternoon in silence, it was not entirely sunny today and she felt sort of foolish for not bringing her cloak out, it looked as if it was going to rain. She had only been in London for about 7 months, give or take, and she already knew it would rain almost always in the spring time. Not that she minded, she loved the rain, but she knew Dani did not. Her best friend, Danielle Dawson, enjoyed the sunshine. Hence why the American Academy was so pleasant for her. She loved the constant rays of sunshine in that part of the country. Rain was not uncommon, but it was not as often as there was sun in the spring and summer months.
Saorise smiled at the thought of her friend, but at the slight beeping noise in her pocket she frowned and furrowed her brow. Time to take your medication Saorise... she thought to herself. She sighed and took out the little round tin, atop it was a rather delicate looking clock, but this clock did not have times on it, it had points where it would go off and remind her to take her medication. A gift from Professor Dumbledore when he heard about her condition. He wanted to make sure that even in the hustle of everyday classes and activities she was still reminded to take the medication her father had given her. Her only way of survival aside from the transfusions she received every holiday and whenever she really needed them. Risi took out the pills she needed and the little bottle of water she carried in her bag and stared at them.
Was this supposed to be her life? Taking medication so that she didn't die? Getting blood from other sources until her father could find a cure or a match to her rather particular bone marrow? Was this what she would have to deal with until she was 18? Was this seriously all there was to life? Would she never be allowed to love, to leave, to get married, to travel the world, have children, grow old with the love of her life and die in his arms when all but time had escaped her? Romantic as the thought was, it was true. She would never get to that point. She was getting closer and closer to her death, Saorise Dawn McCloud, was going to die and she was going to die young. She closed her eyes and dropped the pills into her mouth and took a swig of her water before closing the bottle and putting the pill case and the bottle back into her bag.
Risi looked out at the courtyard as drops started falling on the grass. She sighed and tucked her bag behind her so that it would not get too wet. She sat there, beneath the tree and looked out at the courtyard in silence. She could not help but think of Dani, how her best friend did not even know she was ill, she didn't even know she was going to die. Risi could feel her heart breaking silently. She shook her head, it was for the best. She sighed. Risi let her mind wander then to Sage Doloran. The Hufflepuff she had grown to enjoy seeing, he was a good fellow and he and Risi had some things in common, so it was nice to talk to him. In fact, she had not seen in him a few days, what with being so busy. She wondered how he was. Maybe she'd look for him later, catch up... Risi looked out at the rain and sighed softly. She loved the rain.
