APPEARANCE: Kaoru is overall a typical Asian male. His eyes are almond-shaped, and are dark brown in color. Sometimes, they can even appear to be black, though that usually only happens when he’s particularly upset about something. When that does happen it gives him an almost inhuman appearance, with his pupils blending into his irises, leaving only a black circle in the center of his eye.
His hair, like his eyes, is dark brown and often appears to be black. He has it cut so that it rests somewhere between his ears and his shoulders, usually closer to his shoulders than his ears. He has bangs cut that at best are combed gracefully to the side, but are usually left to fall across his face. On a rare occasion He will comb all of his hair back and use a spell to keep it there, but that takes effort and thus doesn’t happen often. If he doesn’t put anything in it (which is most of the time) his hair tends to defy gravity, the top, shorter strands deciding to rise above his head. His hair is mostly straight, but lately has taken to curving slightly. It has the effect of giving him a wind-blown look, so he hasn’t found much reason to complain.
Kaoru is quite thin. It just seems that no matter how much, how often, or what he eats, he never seems to gain weight. This is usually hidden by his uniform, though, so it’s really not evident just how skinny he is until he’s in his casual clothes, which fit him a lot more tightly. His small waist-size would also be a lot more noticeable if he were taller, but since he stands only at a mere 5’8 he still looks completely proportional. He absolutely hates wearing his glasses, and avoids them as much as he can. He leaves his uniform shirt untucked, and more often than not his tie will be loosened.

PERSONALITY DESCRIPTION: Kaoru is a hedonist. He absolutely hates doing anything that he doesn’t really want to, and thus doesn’t really tend to do it.
He’ll do his homework, even though it is mind-numbingly dull, but he will only do enough to get by on. He doesn’t understand why he should spend so much time working on something that in the long run won’t count for anything.
He takes a lot of pride in his personal appearance, though you wouldn’t know it to look at him. He spends a good chunk of time in the morning making it look like he just rolled out of bed because he thinks it looks more attractive than perfectly combed hair, tucked in uniform shirt, and polished shoes. Before he leaves the common room to go do something Kaoru will always find a way to check his appearance.
Kaoru’s hedonism controls everything he does, and relationships are no exception. In the past he’s been able to tie himself down to one girl – his record is a month – but he doesn’t see why he should have to settle for one girl and accept her faults when he can just float between different girls and get all of their best qualities, not having to deal with their faults. However, the girls at Hogwarts generally don’t agree with his thinking, and Kaoru hasn’t really ever had multiple girls at the same time. He doesn’t make a full commitment unless he really likes the girl, usually just going on a few dates.
Kaoru doesn’t consider himself all that popular, doesn’t actively draw attention to himself, but he does know that he knows a lot of people. He doesn’t walk into the room like he owns the place, doesn’t assume everyone knows who he is. Honestly he doesn’t pay attention to too many things, finding most to be just general happenings that don’t really affect him. He spends his days just lazing about or hanging around with his friends.
However, despite his carefree lifestyle, wherever there is a party, Kaoru makes it a point to be there.
More important than partying and having a good time, though, is Kaoru’s family. He will follow anything that his older brother asks him to, and will do absolutely anything for his baby sister. Kaoru is aloof and carefree and it takes a while to actually get close to him, but once someone does catch Kaoru’s attention, he’s very loyal to them.

WHATS IN THE PAST: Yuske and Naoko met when they were quite young – Yuske was in his fifth year, and Naoko only in her fourth. They stayed together over the years, their love for each other only grew stronger. They married as soon as Naoko finished her seventh year, with their first son, Osamu, being born shortly after. Kaoru followed only a year later. All expectations of carrying on the family name and honor fell to Osamu, the oldest son, leaving Kaoru to do as he pleased. His parents tried to instill a sense of responsibility in him, to get him to make better marks, but he would always take what they said and wonder why he would need to when Osamu would be taking over after their father. Kaoru essentially had no responsibilities that he would need good grades for.
When Akiko was born, Kaoru took an immediate liking to the girl. He had fun playing with the new baby, and as she grew Kaoru decided that he would do everything he could to make sure that she was happy. Once he got older he realized that he was probably spoiling her, but he wanted her to be as happy as he was.
After getting to Hogwarts Kaoru really didn’t find any reason to change how he’d been living. It took a bit of getting used to, a lot of trial and error, but he eventually figured out exactly how much work he would need to do to just scrape by. He met a lot of people, but never really got to know any of them. Year after year Kaoru has just… danced through his life. He’ll start to worry when the music stops.

RP EXAMPLE: (Enny) Enny was in the library. That in itself was nothing out of the usual. He was a Ravenclaw preparing for his NEWTS in the spring - he was in the library more often than he was in his dorm. The difference was in his company. Occasionally he would study with another Ravenclaw, most keeping to himself unless he had a pressing question he couldn't figure out (which wasn't often). But this time he was sitting next to a hyperactive 6th year Gryffindor. A Gryffindor 6th year who was his girlfriend. Enny was still wrapping his head around that one.

In the time before he'd worked up the courage to ask Jenny to be his girlfriend (which hadn't even happened - he hadn't been able to ask her with words, so he just kissed her instead), Enny hadn't been able to focus on anything for more than ten seconds, let alone study. He'd started to fall behind in his classes (he'd only revised his notes once before a quiz. Appalling.), and decided that now that he could focus again he had to catch back up. He'd told Jenny as much. He really wanted to be spending time with Jenny, but with her aversion to the library he told her that she could join him if she wanted, but that he wouldn't be offended in the slightest if she chose to do something else. He was more than surprised when she chose to accompany him.

So, here Enny was in the library with his hyperactive girlfriend. He'd gotten through his Charms, Potions and History of Magic work, but still his Potions, Arithmancy, and Transfiguration left to do. Nothing too terrible. As Enny worked, though, he couldn't help but notice Jenny fidgeting. He also noticed that she kept looking up at him. Peripheral vision was a wonderful thing. He decided to not point it out, though. He's always been able to focus easily despite distractions, and he was curious to see how long Jenny could last in the quiet, still Library. She'd lasted about an hour so far, he was proud of her.

Enny knew her patience was fated to end, though, and as he reached the bottom of the page in his Potions text that he'd been taking notes on and reached to turn it, Jenny spoke up. It was sudden, and louder than she should have been, but she wasn't used to being quiet. Looking at her, Enny saw her playing with her hair and was distracted for a moment from answering her. When he did, it was in the carefully controlled volume suitable for the library. "I'm not entirely sure, Jenny. I'm about half done, maybe another hour?" Enny knew that another hour would be pushing her limits. "You don't have to stay, if you're bored. I can meet you for dinner. Or you could take a break and run down to the kitchens for a snack." Checking the madam Pince wasn't looking (he was on very good terms with the Librarian, but he didn't know how she'd react to couples) Enny kissed Jenny softly. "I know studying isn't your absolute favorite thing to do. You've lasted a whole hour, that's really good."
