A/N: This is something I've been thinking up for a while. I've been inspired by country. I've been listening to it a lot recently. This is a short story, split into a few parts. Uhm, yeah, enjoy. Comments are more than welcome!
Note: Part One is mainly fluff. :3
“Lisette, come on.”
The dark haired girl looked up earnestly into soft, hazel eyes. They stared back at her, amazed, confident, lovingly. She bit back a smile and nodded, her fingers holding onto his own as he lead the way on their hike. They’d been on a weekend camping trip. She had an odd feeling in the pit of her stomach. Like something important was about to happen, and if her guesses were right, this would be the happiest day of her life yet. Rob didn’t like camping, so this had to be it.
The two trekked about another ten minutes, until he turned to her and asked her to close her eyes. She raised a brow questioningly. He smiled tenderly at her, and softly kissed the top of her head. “Please?”
She bit her lip and nodded. “Sure thing.” As soon as her eyes closed, she felt herself being taken by the hand.
“Come on. Don’t open your eyes. Trust me.” She always would. Lisette had no choice, she did as she was told and trusted him.
She followed slowly behind him, and then felt his hands on her arms, forcing her to stop. “Can I open my eyes now?” She questioned impatiently. Her heart skipped a beat.
“One moment.” He told her, “…Ok…now.”
Her eyelids fluttered open. It took a moment for Lisette to register that they were on a high hill, overlooking the valley. It was a breath-taking scene, with the sun beginning to set. She looked at him, and found his crooked smile. She didn’t know what to say, really. A small feeling of disappointment was beginning to set in.
“Beautiful, right?” He questioned, taking a seat on a nearby rock.
“…Is this it?” She questioned softly, not able to look in his eyes.
“Well…yeah…” He answered. “What? Don’t you like it?”
Lisette bit her lip in order to fight back a tear. “No,” She answered quickly, “I like it. It’s nice.” She forced back a gulp and blinked quickly. She’d been a fool.
“Liz?” He asked, “Care to turn around?”
She took a breath of air. She was always so predictable. He probably knew she was close to tears. She shook her head. Might as well be stubborn.
From behind her, she heard a small chuckle. “Please?” He asked politely. Lisette shook her head no once more.
He sighed, and stood up. He stood behind her, and wrapped an arm around her waist, trying to turn his girlfriend to face her. “Liz, Liz,” He repeated as she fought and struggled against him. It was too late now, two big, fat, wet tears were trailing down her cheeks.
“Liz, look at me.” He ordered. She turned her head from him. “Look at me, or you’re going to force me to do this the way I hadn’t planned.”
Lisette didn’t understand, but she continued to look away. He sighed, and grabbed her hand, putting something in it. A small box.
A confused Lisette stopped her struggle and held it tight, her heart stopping for a quick moment. “Wha-?” She turned around to face him. “What’s this?” She questioned softly.
His lips pulled at the corners, signaling a smile. “I wanted to do something different than the traditional, but you leave me no choice.” He told her. Slowly, he got down on one knee. “I was hoping to show you the sunset and somehow have you fall asleep in my arms. That way I could I slip this thing onto your finger and have you wake up with it already, but I can see we can’t have that.” Lisette gasped, her guess proved true.
He took her hand, “Lisette, I can’t say I’ve loved you forever, but I promise you that I’m loving you now and will continue to love you. I love everything about you. You’re so sensitive and determined. You don’t do anything half-way. You’re cheerful and caring - the opposite of me. I don’t think I can live another day without you in my life. So please…Please say you’ll be mine, and only mine, forever and for always? Liz, please marry me?”
The two tears she was previously wearing were now greeted with more. She could barely make out his outline through her glossy eyes. She nodded vigorously, unable to form words at the moment. She held onto his hand tightly, trying to show her emotion in any way. “Yes!” She finally cried out. “Of course!”
He rose, his lips meeting her own in a blissful reunion. Her arms cradled around his neck. This was the best day of her life.
