A.N: I wrote this for my friend, Kim, who needed plot ideas for a novela she's writing. According to her, it's sweet and good, so I thought I'd post for your reading pleasure. The lyrics to the song are in Spanish, but I have Spanish translations after this post. Enjoy. =]
P.S. Some of you may recognize Rodolfor Muniez from MIS. It's the same guy.
Everything was sudden and unexpected with Rodolfo. She could still remember seeing him for the first time at Kim's birthday bash. He was a newcomer to the party, although he seemed to know Davy pretty well, and it was told that he knew Kim as well. He was taller than she, so she estimated that he stood at 6'1. He was built and slightly muscular. His clothing style seemed to imply his status as a 'troublemaker' or a 'bad boy', but his personality contrasted that. A bright grin never left his face, making him glow. Lisette would sometimes catch him laughing, with his head thrown back. He seemed a real fun-loving guy and handsome to boot. She was intrigued, and knew she wanted to get to know more about him someday.
Kim, of course, had noticed her friend throwing glances at him and took her by the hand in his direction. Lisette's eyes grew wide and filled with fear. Kim was an excellent friend - her best friend - but she had a habit for uncomfortable situations. She was never uncomfortable, no, but Lisette usually was.
"Hey Davy! Hey Rodolfo!" She called out over the pounding beat of the music playing. She approached each with a kiss on their left cheek, custom greeting. Lisette sighed in relief, she was playing the Davy card. Although, Lisette knew she was using Lisette's situation to her own advantage to talk to the guy. As Kim would cleverly put it, she was 'killing two birds with one stone'. Lisette could have laughed at Davy's reaction to this approach. He ran a hand through his slick hair and straightened at once. He greeted her in a more mature-sounding voice and a heart-warming smile. Rodolfo seemed to notice the change in his friend as well, since he gave a hearty laugh. The very sound of it made Lisette's stomach knot up. It surprised her a bit - she didn't even know the guy.
"Rodolfo you haven't met my best friend," Kim accused, her lips forming her famous puppy-like pout.
"You haven't introduced her!" Rodolfo shot back with a grin.
"I'm Lisette! Lisette Vargas!" The darker haired girl called out at once. She had seen the mischievous glint in Kim's eye. No doubt she would have been introduced as 'Lisette, my best friend. We've been together since we were in diapers. But...stinky diapers on her part.' Or heaven forbid 'Lisette - she has a bit of a crush on you, you know. So Davy and I will you two love birds alone.'
Rodolfo seemed impressed with her, and extended his hand out for a handshake. "I'm Rodolfo Muniez." He told her, breaking out a heart-warming smile. A small current of electricity made her jump back as their skin made contact. She looked up to apologize, but saw him smiling. "Hi." She managed in a small voice. Over the music, she was sure he wouldn't have heard her, but he merely nodded, his eyes never breaking contact.
The two became good friends after that. Her eyes would always light up whenever Kim mentioned his presence at a party or get-together. She noticed his own merriment in her company. There would be times when he would share his popcorn at a movie with only her, or choose to sit by her in the dinner booth. She was falling for him, but everyone knew Rodolfo wasn't one to settle down. There were always wild tales about his love life and his infidelity. Lisette wasn't the only one attracted to him - there were many who claimed to hold the key to his heart and a few who went as far as to say they bedded him. Rodolfo never confirmed or denied any claims, which troubled her. She knew she shouldn't; she'd get her heart broken for sure, but she still allowed herself to get closer to him.
It happened suddenly - as always with him. But nonetheless, it was a sweet surprise. They were at a party, talking about who knows what as they danced. He pulled her to him, his arms wrapped around her waist. His dark head came down and before she had a second to register what was going on, his mouth was upon her on in a soft and eager kiss. A small cry of protest was muffled and thrown down as she lost herself in the small bliss. He bent a little lower, increasing the passion until she was nothing more than a mere rag doll, with her arms around his neck, hanging limply to keep from falling.
So it was declared, with no words, but mere kisses that she was his girlfriend. She knew it, and so did everyone else. But as the days wore on, she began to doubt it. They never acted like a couple should. Rodolfo never called, or bought her flowers like boyfriends did. He would sometimes appear at her door to drive her to a party, but she usually returned with a friend, while he remained behind. They hung out with crowds, and were hardly ever alone. Still, they were together and Lisette knew she should be happy about the fact. When they were together, he would always have a hand at her waist, or an arm around her shoulder. She would sometimes sit in his lap, with her head cradled around his neck. She was lucky if they would share a few kisses publicly. But it wasn't what she needed. She wanted the two to go on an actual date. She wanted to hear three little words back. But she never did. No matter how hard she tried, she couldn't deny his hold over her. She couldn't deny the strength of his arms, the power he seemed to hold, the confidence he had that allowed him to hold his head high, and the overwhelming feeling of safety that he gave her. The only thing missing was love.
She tried to convince herself that she wasn't in love with him. It was just a crush, surely. But deep down, she knew she couldn't deny it. She went a whole week without seeing him, and then four days after that. It hurt her to tear herself away from him, but she willed herself to do so. Even though she cried herself to sleep every night. Rodolfo never came around. He never called to see how she was. When she asked Kim if he had asked for her, her only response was a sad sigh and a shake of her head. Convinced that it had only been a fling for him, she willed herself back on the social scene with Kim's company.
Everyone whispered, but she held her head high and ignored them. She had been talking to a kid from her English class when all of a sudden, a hand grabbed her roughly and took her into an empty kitchen. "Why haven't you called?" She looked up into the angry eyes of Rodolfo Muniez.
A mixture of fear and anger flooded her. She had heard the tales of the beatings kids had gotten when they had angered Rodolfo. No doubt he had the strength to leave a few bruises on her. But the fact that he expected her to call just made her blood boil. She wrestled her arm free and glared at him.
"Why did I call?" She echoed, "Why didn't you call? Why didn't you bother to figure out where I was? I've been gone for weeks! For all anyone cared, I could have been dead - and you wouldn't have known!"
He wasn't phased by her angry tone and dagger-like glares. It was the first time he had seen her angry, a huge contrast to her usual sweet nature. Yet, people seemed to be angry with him all the time.
"Who was that boy you were talking to?" He questioned.
He was jealous. A mad glint entered Lisette's eye. "What do you care?" She shot at him, and made to leave.
He caught her arm again. " I mean it Lisette -Who was he?"
Lisette had it. "My lover!" She yelled back sarcastically.
Rodolfo's jaw tightened. He knew sarcasm when he heard it, but didn't appreciate it. Lisette tried to shake her hand free, but he was shocked to see a tear streaming down her cheek and immediately released her.
"I can't do this anymore." She told him in a broken voice. He wasn't sure what she was talking about. The tears alone were shocking. "I can't go on pretending. What's the point of even being together if you don't even like me?"
He blinked, shocked at her words. He walked over to her and pulled her to him, gently. He wiped away her tears with the pads of his thumbs and bent low over her. "Don't say that." He told her softly. "I - I love you."
"What?" It was a shock, even for him. Lisette could scarcely believe her ears. She had only heard those words in her dreams.
"I love you." He whispered back to her. His face broke into another heart - melting smile. He had promised himself not to fall in love, but he had. He was in love with Lisette and he knew he didn't want to ever break her heart again. "You mean the world to me." He continued, wrapping his arms around her. "I don't want to see you sad ever again, especially if it's my fault." He couldn't believe he was saying these words. It was like he was a whole new person - which he was. He looked back down at his dark haired beauty and kissed her gently once more, leaving her content and safe once more. Love did crazy things to people, and this was another example.
