APPEARANCE:

Severus is often described as a 'bat', however he is no vampire. But it's not hard to understand why people see him like this. His skin is sallow and pale, his eyes are a cruel black colour, they are described as cold and empty and they make you think of dark tunnels. His dark eyes match his black shoulder length hair. His hair is often described as greasy, which has brought him years of torment from the Marauders. At 17, he stands quite tall and is unusually thin for a boy of his age, but his baggy robes tend to hide this fact. He is quite 'weedy' but this doesn't matter to him because he prefers brains over brauns.

Severus is often teased for his apparent 'greasy' features. It has caused him a lot of grief. The Marauders are always doing their best to point it out when ever they can. And it makes Severus angry to know that they do, he is slightly insecure because of it, he is constantly cleaning his hair and face, in high hope that the taunts will stop.

PERSONALITY DESCRIPTION:

Snape is a cold person by nature, having an abusive father has made him quite hateful to most people. However, he is or rather he was kinder towards Lily Evans before their friendship broke, which left him quite hurt. However, his softer side always seems to come out whenever around Lily, he cannot help it. And he does get frustrated with himself sometimes because of this. But he does enjoy being kind to Lily, he just knows that he cannot show this kindness infront of his Slytherin friends.

Snape is an individual, although he enjoys the same things as his friends, he also enjoys reading, something that he doesn’t share with his friends. He thinks its only sensible, and it helps him broaden his knowledge and helps him when he invents his spells.
Snape is fascinated by the Dark Arts, and won’t think twice before practising it. Although Lily disagrees with it, Snape doesn’t care, it’s who he is and he is proud of it. However, he doesn’t like how James treats him and is often trying to find a way of permanently getting rid of him. In his eyes, Hogwarts would be a better place without him. In truth, Snape is quite jealous of James, he hates the fact that everyone loves James and that he’s good at everything Snape isn’t. He is also angry that James loves Lily, in his eyes, James is stealing Lily from him. But so he is happy that Lily keeps rejecting him.

Severus has always been a bit of a dark character, bu the constant teasing he gets from James and the Marauders is leaning him more and more towards the darker ways. He hates being taunted by them, and will often result in curses just to get them away. The more they taunt him, the more the desire to hurt them bubbles within him. He sees the Marauders as cowards, they only tease him and bully him when all of them are there and when they have an audience.

WHATS IN THE PAST:

Severus Snape was the only child of Tobias Snape (a Muggle), and Eileen Prince Snape (a witch). The Snape household on Spinner’s End in an industrial part of northern England was not a happy one. Tobias Snape frequently unleashed his anger on his wife, and Severus, their wizard child, was neglected.

When he was about 9 years old, young Severus discovered another magically gifted child at the neighborhood playground, and fell in love with green-eyed Lily Evans’s generous nature and her daring -- and tried to forget that she was a “Mudblood,” a Muggle-born witch.

Severus was sorted into Slytherin and Lily was sorted into Gryffindor. So the two often didn't see each other, and this caused Severus much distress. Their other classmates included James Potter, Sirius Black, Remus Lupin, Bertha Jorkins and the children of the Death Eaters Avery and Mulciber. Students in other years included Regulus Black and Lucius Malfoy.

Snape quickly built a reputation in Slytherin and him, Avery, Malfoy and many others became a gang of Slytherins, devoted to the Dark Arts. Blood status was fair game for schoolyard taunts and many young students were fascinated by Voldemort’s power and ideas. Snape, who allegedly arrived at Hogwarts knowing more curses than most upperclassmen, was one of these students. Lily grew more and more disturbed as her old friend Severus developed friendships with a group of Muggle-hating Slytherins, especially Avery and Mulciber. They would often cause trouble, but whenever Lily was involved, Severus found some excuse not to participate. Instead, he spent time inventing his own spells.

Snape and James Potter quickly developed a loathe/loathe relationship, partly because they were both attracted to Lily Evans, partly because James was so strongly against the Dark Arts. James and his best friend Sirius nicknamed Snape "Snivellus," and taunted him about his unkempt appearance. Both boys rarely lost an opportunity to hex one another.

Snape's best lessons were DADA and Potions. Although he enjoyed DADA, his skills in Potions far exceeded his skills in DADA. And it has brought him a lot of Praise from Slughorn, who is quick to make an example of him in class. Severus feels a certain pride about this, because he knows its something he has beaten James in. If Snape wasn't so fascinated with the Dark Arts and with commiting himself to The Dark Lord and following his every command, he would go into a career where he could do something with Potions.

As Severus' years progressed, his inventions got better and better. He would often scribble down ideas and incantations in his potions book. And whenever he got the chance he would practise them. After a while, he created his own nickname for himself. The 'half blood prince'. However, he soon discovered that James had stumbled on his spells and was begining to use them. Enraged, Severus swore he'd get James back.

Snape’s worst memory was of an incident that happened during his fifth year at Hogwarts. The day everyone took their O.W.L.s, James and Sirius snuck up on Severus and humiliated him in front of all the other students by using one of his spells. Lily was nearby and stopped James, but Severus, angry and embarrassed, lashed out at Lily and called her the unforgivable -- a Mudblood. He apologized to her later, but she would have none of it. Severus could not have Lily’s friendship and still have his Muggle-hater friends

Over the years. Snape spent a lot of time following James and his friends around, trying to find ways to get them expelled. When Snape became too curious about where Lupin went every month, Sirius Black tricked him into entering the passage under the Whomping Willow to find out. He would have been killed by Lupin as werewolf -- or wound up a werewolf himself -- if James Potter hadn't realized what was happening and pulled him back. Far from being thankful, Snape deeply resented being in debt to James

RP EXAMPLE:
Sverus walked out of the Transfiguration classroom. It had been an awful lesson. Transfiguration was not one of Severus’s best subjects. He didn't seem to have the knack for it. He just found the lesson boring and of no use to him. Severus was good at Potions. Potions and DADA, he wasn’t even bad in charms. When he came to think of it, he was pretty good in charms. He had invented some pretty good spells. They had come in pretty handy. But unfortunately some of the spells had been used against him. He gritted his teeth at this thought. How could anybody have used his spells against him, him the Half-Blood Prince!

Severus seemed to excell in Potions, and he was proud of it, it was something he could rub in front of the arrogant Potter. Potter was forever rubbing his Quidditch skills in his face, he was forever taunting Severus over the fact that he was good with women. Well, Severus was good at the important stuff. How was Potter's skills ever going to get him anywhere in real life?

A scent caught Severus nose and he sighed. It was lunch time. He saw many students filing into the Great hall. He didn’t feel like having lunch, he wasn’t hungry so why bother surrounding yourself around food? It seemed pointless and anyway, he needed to be alone now. Making his way to the Common room he nodded at fellow house members. He knew the common room would be empty, which was perfect. He could have some alone time.

Scrambling through the hole he entered the common room, quickly glancing around the common room Severus was glad to find that it was empty. He walked across the room and placed his bag on a table. He would still have to do that Transfiguration essay Proffesor MacGonnagal had given the class yesterday. But that could wait till that evening. Strolling over to an armchair Severus sighed and sat down.
