The windy city was named for a time in history when many politicians gathered and fought. fought a whole lot. but sometimes things never change. at elizabeth carlyle academy, it's anything but quiet and docile. windiness is everywhere. this is only expected, of course, because when elizabeth carlyle, a wealthy heiress of an oil fortune, founded this great midwestern school, she expected it to be attended by the children of those who were deserving of such an honorable place. politicians, entertainers, doctors, scientists. all those who have done great things, and can afford great things. and these children were not raised by the tame, and are not tame in the least. they know how to fight and stand up for themselves. they know that great things are expected out of them, and that it's quite possible that carlyle academy will be the place to mend them into the right stuff for great things.
Well, that is a rather generalization. there are still the rebels. those nasty suckers who don't listen to their parents, disobey school rules, and overall are just considered bad eggs. maybe they're not actually quite so bad. but at carlyle, everyone is judged harshly. and the greater things your ancestors have done, the harder they are on you. so watch out kids, this place is tougher than your average private school, and could totally kick any public schools bee-hind. oh, and there is plenty of competition. all these high schoolers are competing for the same scholarships, the same privileges. it's a fight just to get into chess club for the sole reason it looks good on a college application. whether that's actually true, who knows? desperate times call for desperate measures.
And you know what else? there are also nasty cliques. separated by anything from age, hobbies, and study habits. some thrive on torturing others, some just thrive on being unique and standing out. but whatever clique your in, you definitely do not want to be a scholarship students. they're considered the bottom of the bucket, the complete scum of the school. even teachers look down upon scholarship students, and it's quite obvious even though they try to hide it. these kids have to try the hardest of all. you have to feel bad for them. so it's also not that surprising that "scholarships" hate the "privileged". i mean, i would hate them too if i was them. those kids who can practically roll around it millions are so easy to hate when all you can roll around in is pennies. but hey, somehow these kids manage to have fun. i mean, that's what high school is all about, right?
AND IT JUST DOESN'T FEEL THE SAME AT
