{ About The CHARACTER }
x Alexander Tristan Thomas"Alex"
CANNON OR ORIGINAL: Original YEAR: Seventh AGE: Seventeen DOB: February 7th RACE: Caucasian (British) GENDER: Male SEXUALITY: Heterosexual WAND: Ten and a half inches, cedar, dragon heartstring core BROOM: Silver Arrow PET: Eagle owl named Mercury
APPEARANCE: Alex is extremely tall for his age, standing at approximately 6'4". Most horrifyingly, he's still growing. This height would invite a certain degree of lankiness (Merlin forbid), but Alexander is a Quidditch boy, as well as a swimmer and a basketball player, so, yes, he's pretty muscular to make up for things. Actually, 'pretty muscular' doesn't reall sum things up very well. It's not like he's grossly, crazily built (the steroids look isn't all that attractive), but there's definitely a certain well-developed quality to his arms and torso particularly, from swimming, naturally. Broad shouldered and evenly tanned, he cuts quite the impressive figure in both tuxedos and...erm, lack of tuxedos. Surprisingly, despite all this, he's not really very well co-ordinated on land, managing to trip over at appropriate intervals.
His hair itself is a dark brown in coloration, though in strong sunlight it can appear from angles to be shot through with lighter undertones. In any case, it is fine and not particularly thick, but his tendency to sleep on it badly has given him a near permanent tousled look. His fringe is particularly messy, falling to rest just above his eyebrows. From there, the state of Alex's hair improves somewhat (though it is still a little unruly), and it certainly fits the shape of his head very well, hiding his ears (not that there's anything wrong with them). At the back, his hair grows out a little bit, but certainly not long enough to make him look effeminate. It's almost always messy, and Alex is one for tidiness, normally, but not even a comb through and sticking spell can make it retain a neat look for long.
As far as facial features go, Alex's are not extremely eyecatching, and they're certainly not perfect, but they contain a certain rugged masculinity and his skin is otherwise flawless- surprising, really. His jaw isn't particularly square- rather, it tapers slightly from the sides of his face to his chin, giving him a symmetrical and rather pleasant look. His cheekbones aren't protuberant at all really, which is good, since this, in turn, means that his cheeks are not hollow. Alex's nose is straight and unbroken...which is surprising, given how often he manages to fall over. His mouth is well-shaped and, it is naturally curved up slightly at the corners, which lends him a somewhat roguish and impish look. He has a trademark half-smile in place most of the time, and yes, he smirks a lot too. Not to worry, though, smirks on Alex are sort of nice.
Alex's eyes are a sort of green-brown (hazel) colour, and they're not very deep-set. Moreover, they're also evenly spaced, which is a relief. From some angles, his eyes either appear more green or brown, and since they've been referred to as both colours before, he's not picky. FACE CLAIM: Jared Padalecki
PERSONALITY DESCRIPTION: Alexander Thomas has what could only ever, ever be described as a distinctly unique personality. He is proud, for one thing- proud of just about anything and anything he could take pride in. Egotistical as a result of that? Maybe a little bit, but generally he can keep his big head under wraps. Overbearing, definitely- Alex can be somewhat overwhelming if one hasn't braced themselves for his little quirks. People either like this, or dislike it- either way, Alex doesn't care. Making pretences about his personality to cause it to appear more 'user-friendly' is misconstrued in his eyes as being a form of weakness, and of course, if anyone knew anything about him, they'd realize that weakness is the one thing Alex hates most, apart from pineapples, of course. The dislike of pineapples is another story, though, naturally. Another thing, too- cynicism is like a cross between a vice and a virtue for the Thomas boy, coming in handy at some times but hindering greatly at other moments. It's not like he's made any effort to conceal his slightly facetious, biting edge, though, so perhaps the fault is his.
Yes, he's pretty easy to dislike, but sometimes, to everyone's surprise (including his), he displays kindness and even, dare one say it, compassion. Well, alright, compassion is stretching it a bit, but he can let up on the sarcasm for a little while if someone really needs it, which is as close to empathy as Alex has ever really gotten. Still, even these rare and random acts of support and comfort (again, perhaps comfort is not wholly the appropriate word here) spur chagrin in his parents and, in turn, the rest of the Pureblood community. Alex, as one may have guessed, doesn't really care for what his parents think, and on that particular matter he's rather stubborn. Actually, he's just stubborn anyway, which is why it's surprising to most that he has such strong leadership qualities. He can make people do what he wants them to in a way that is not 'bossy', but rather completely patient and persuasive. In this particular aspect, he is a skilled manipulator, but really, it's more down to natural charisma than cunning.
On the flip side, Alex is one man who can't take orders himself...probably due to his stubborn side, actually. Taking on board people's advice is all good and well, but it's another matter when someone tells him to do something. His heels automatically dig in and he won't budge. Obviously, in accordance with this inability to take orders, he absolutely hates being wrong, and loves being right. He also hates apologizing, because really, it's just another way of admitting that someone else is right. If that weren't enough, admitting someone else is right could be thought of as weakness, and everyone already knows that Alex shies away from weakness- it couldn't be re-iterated more. In any case, his contrasting personality varies a fair bit, so much so that one could call him bipolar. His parents never actually got him tested to see if he was bipolar, because Merlin forbid that their son would have something 'wrong' with him. Mental eye roll. Anyway, determination- Alex has it in spades. Honestly, feel free to rob him of some of his determination.
To put it this way, if Alex sees something he likes or particularly desires, he'll pursue it until he either gets it or dies in the attempt. If he commits to something, he'll see it through, too- he's not really fickle at all. At least he'd make a good husband...in the event that he ever, ever managed to get a wife. He has the capacity to be cruel, but not out of a genuine desire to cause suffering- he's just a little ignorant and inattentive sometimes. True enough, his thoughtlessness leads him to saying things which hurt others at times. Oh, right- he's also blunt, terribly blunt, and honest, baulking at the idea of sugar-coating bad situations. Enough of the bad points, though. He does have some good things going for him. For all he appears to be the pinnacle of human apathy and indifference, Alex has weaknesses like everyone else. Firstly, he's a giant softie for children of all ages (well, he's kind of afraid of them) and in addition, he's also quite blind when it comes to his friendships. Isn't this weakness? Yeah, it sort of is, but try as he might Alex can't shake the habit so he's given up on trying. Granted, it's very hard to gain his trust, but when someone does he's completely malleable...sort of like putty, except taller.
His rash behaviour comes into play once more around those he cares about, and he's perfectly willing to be all martyr-like to save loved ones. Gallant, yes, but hardly convenient.
BOGGART: Any physical manifestation of weakness. PATRONUS: Black Panther HOPES FOR THE FUTURE: Ministry of Magic will suffice until he works out something better to do with his time.
SPECIAL ABILITIES: Alexander is an Animagus- he has the ability to shapeshift into the form of a black panther at will. BLOOD: Pureblood BIRTHPLACE: Manchester, England MY FAMILY: Amorius Devereaux Thomas - Father Loretta Thomas - Mother WHATS IN THE PAST: Alex's family has been pure blood and extremely wealthy for generations. Descended from several wizards of note (one of them being, by way of extremely remote relation, Salazar Slytherin), he is expected to achieve great things and honour the family name. That, at the moment, doesn't seem too likely to happen, but according to his parents, it's Alex's fault more than anyone else's. His parents were both Slytherins at school, but they were definitely more sympathetic to Salazar Slytherin's cause than some of their other peers, dabbling in Dark Arts and, at times, causing a general amount of havoc. They're not necessarily to be classified as evil, but they're definitely not the easiest people in the world to get along with. Since they had similar interests at Hogwarts, they gravitated towards one another and it was no surprise to the student body when they began dating.
It was even less of a surprise when, just before they graduated, they announced to everyone their engagement and the date of their imminent wedding (just to, you know, rub it in a few people's faces). Amidst the traditional Pureblood glitz and glamour they were wed, and for a while it was general happiness in the household. Then Alex arrived and things...changed, somewhat. Amorius was all for having another child, a 'spare heir' if one could refer to it that way, just in case something bad happened to Alex or he needed to be disowned. You know, the usual precautions in a family of their standing. Loretta, however, put her foot down firmly- no more children for her, the stretch marks would be intolerable. Thus, the family lapsed into some sort of stony, awkward silence of sorts, and growing up in the middle of it wasn't exactly the greatest thing, where Alex was concerned. Still, he got used to it and left rather gleefuly for Hogwarts when the time came.
Despite the fact that he is notorious for getting anything he wants, his parents are inattentive to him and virtually strangers in his life. As such, all of his holidays excluding his summer ones are spent at Hogwarts. He doesn't mind, though- even though there's a lot to do at his own home, his parents naturally put a damper on things, as seems to be their nature. Not to mention the unspoken expectation to dabble (or, perhaps, for lack of a better word, plunge) into Dark Arts. He's trying to stay away from that for as long as he can, since he doesn't really have much of an interest in the rather dangerous and fickle practices. No point getting himself killed whilst experimenting with ways of torture, like some others had been known to do. He has broken with tradition and trained himself in the ways of the Animagi, and now has the power to transform into a panther at will (an ability which he fervently conceals).
He believes that undergoing the training to become an Animagus was wholly worth it, even though it was rigorous and involved many nights spent poring over 'manuals' of sort. The process for him required immense focus, the ability to channel and harness his willpower, and then sort of invert it and direct it at himself. At first, he was only making rather gruesome half changes (such as the occasional paw or tail) but after immense practice that spanned all the way through his fourth, fifth and sixth years, he almost accidentally stumbled on the correct mental formula for the transition and has been able to do it ever since. One thing about the power that he's quite worried about is his tendency to transform sometimes when he's feeling very fierce, out-of-control emotions- anger, excitement, and even sometimes completely randomly. Thus, he is continuing his attempts at gaining even better self-control.

RP EXAMPLE: From his vantage point in the castle (or, more exactly, from the windowsill of the Owlery), Alexander Tristan Thomas had a view of the world. Not literally, of course, because the only thing that he could actually see was a dense expanse of forest and mountain. However, the somewhat limited surroundings did in no way inhibit the workings of his brain, and he was able to fly through his imagination unhindered. He had no explanation for why he was balanced precariously on a window ledge several feet from the ground, clutching a quill and parchment at such an ungodly hour of morning.
He tapped aforementioned quill softly in a somewhat syncopated beat against his lips, which were currently set in a petulant moue. If it was not evident from his pensive expression, his repeated murmuring and scratching out lines on his parchment made it clear - he was writing poetry. Or, attempting to write poetry, as he was having a limited amount of success. He was attempting to express his feelings through verse, but whenever he seemed to be on the verge of a literary breakthrough, he reminded himself that he wasn't meant to have feelings and was returned to square one.
He was sorely tempted to either go back to bed or to annihilate the owl that was hooting softly and irritatingly to his right. In the end, however, he began deliberating his poem again. What seemed like minutes of useless pondering and scratching-out-lines later, he looked out the window and was surprised to see that the sun was almost fully risen. Squinting balefully and shielding his eyes from the sun with one hand, he gracefully alighted from the windowsill and stretched in an almost catlike fashion. Satisfied that he wasn't going to achieve anything more, he stalked towards his dormitory, looking rather foolish in a black dressing robe and clutching a scrap of ink-spattered parchment. He would be lucky to make it through his first class. ANSWER: Once again? The entire book was shocking. Poor readers. OTHER:
