{ About The CHARACTER }
x John Matthew Brookes"Matt"
CANNON OR ORIGINAL: Original YEAR: 6th AGE: 16 DOB: March 20, 1961 RACE: human GENDER: male SEXUALITY: heterosexual WAND: Cherry, 16” Phoenix feather BROOM: Cleansweep PET: A black owl named Bear
APPEARANCE: Matt is not exactly tall, but he's not short either. He stands at 5'10”. His hair is a dark brown color and the style depends on the time of year. At the beginning of the school year his hair is usually shorter. Middle of school year, it's fairly long, because he never takes the time to cut it. At the end of the school year, he usually gets it cut back some before he goes home. Matt's eyes are a light brown, almost hazel color. They reflect his mood, like most eyes do, sparkling when he's amused or happy, and becoming a dark brown when he's mad.
Matt has a very cheerful grin that he uses sometimes, but you can mostly find him with a cheeky smirk on his face. Either way, the girls love it. Matt's style is comfortable and casual. He usually wears cords (doesn't much care for jeans) and a t-shirt, with a button down shirt over the t-shirt and the shirt rolled up to ¾ length, and he usually wears a watch or some kind of bracelet on his left arm. Matt's shoe choices consist of sandals and casual shoes.
FACE CLAIM: John Patrick Amedori
PERSONALITY DESCRIPTION: Matt's personality can be described as cheeky by many. He loves a good laugh, even at his own expense. He takes it upon himself to cheer his friends up when they need it, and he usually succeeds. Matt is an extremely social and friendly guy and has many friends from both Hogwarts and home. He has a quick wit and a good humor about most things. Some of his close friends have no difficulty in calling Matt a smart-ass sometimes, but he usually knows when to stop with the sarcastic comments, though not all the time. However, Matt is also very bright and seems to have a knack for comprehending difficult concepts. He enjoys reading and writing. While he prefers to do these things on his own choice and time, he doesn't really mind doing them for school. Some subjects he's not overly fond of, but he still does it and puts time and thought into the subject ad homework.
Matt's not an extremely athletic person, but he does enjoy a friendly match of football (American soccer), basketball, or quidditch. He joined the quidditch team simply to get his energy out and have fun. Matt also loves music of almost any kind. There are a few genres he's not fond of, but he appreciates musical talent and well-written lyrics. Matt has a bit of a temper that he's just learning to control. He doesn't like anyone who is mean to him or his friends and he had a habit as a younger teen to just punch people in the face. He got many detentions for fighting and he finally realized that it really got him nowhere. He's just learned to ignore all the Slytherins who mention his blood lineage.
BOGGART: His family being harmed because of him. PATRONUS: An English Springer Spaniel because it's an intelligent, friendly dog. HOPES FOR THE FUTURE: Matt hopes to become a healer so he can help people.
SPECIAL ABILITIES: None really. BLOOD: Muggle-born BIRTHPLACE: Edinburgh, Scotland MY FAMILY: Father: John Andrew Brookes Mother: Catherine Deanna Morgan Brookes Sisters: Felicity Agnes Brookes Angelle Elizabeth Brookes Brother: Benjamin Isaiah Brookes WHATS IN THE PAST:John and Catherine Brookes met when Catherine was just out of high school and John was finishing college. They started dating and married early. Soon after marrying, they had Felicity. Because they were both young and inexperienced, they didn't really know what to do with Felicity, and the young girl was basically allowed to do whatever she wanted. Catherine was also not on good terms with her parents and John's parents lived far away and weren't much help with the baby. While Catherine juggled working as a secretary and raising Felicity, John got his teaching degree and finally became a professor. After this Matt was born and the two were a little better prepared to be parents. Two years after Matt, Ben was born. Though John and Catherine still were not able to control Felicity, they had better luck with the boys. Angelle was born two years ago and seems to have more promise than Felicity.
When Matt was born, Felicity resented the fact that Matt got the attention (being the new baby), and then later the fact that she had to share the attention with her brother. While Matt was growing up, this annoyance didn't bother him at all. He was always a social child and well liked. He had many friends at school, and all the teachers loved him. Matt did well in school, normally coming in towards the top of the class. This fact also made Felicity (who slacked off) jealous of her brother. Matt spent most of his childhood either playing in the woods with his friends, or reading in his room. He began to write stories early on in life, one of his outlets for the creativity bursting in his young mind.
When Matt was two, his younger brother was born, a fact that delighted the young Matt, and he took his job very seriously. Since Ben was a quiet and shy child, Matt took it upon himself to be his guide and translator. At age eleven, Matt received his Hogwarts letter. This came as a great shock for Matt and his family, since everyone of his family were muggles. However, once the shock set in, Matt's parents were excited for their son, who was extremely intrigued by this strange new world. Felicity, however, made up her mind that her brother was not only an attention stealer and a nuisance, but he was also a freak. She has never let him forget this 'fact'. Matt was mad at his sister at first, but soon learned to ignore it. He went to Hogwarts like he went to anything: excited and ready to make new friends.
At Hogwarts, Matt realized that not everyone was ready to like him and be his friend. He ran into the pure-blood hierarchy early on in his Hogwarts career, and immediately made mortal enemies. His quick temper and willingness to just 'have it out' transferred to random 'spats' with his Slytherin enemies. He didn't appreciate people thinking they were better than him simply because of who they were born to. There was a particular incident in third year that was very traumatizing for Matt, and he then started to try and not let the Slytherins bother him. He wasn't very good at it, and has only recently obtained the self control to deal with his enemies.
Two years ago, his little sister Angelle was born. Matt was glad to have another younger sibling and hoped this sister would like him better than the other one. Because Matt loves his little siblings so much, they basically adore him and think that anything Matt does is right and cool, though Ben isn't as enamored now that's he's grown more.

RP EXAMPLE: Matt sat on his bed, absorbed in a book he had found in his father's library. It was a thick, old book that was written by a German author, so Matt was having to use all of his concentration to grasp the story. However, he had always enjoyed a challenge and he was becoming engrossed in the story. Downstairs, he heard a door slam and a voice calling out his name. “Reading, Mum!” He yelled back to his mother. He heard an 'OK' come from downstairs and he went back to his book.
As he was finishing up a particularly interesting chapter, he heard two sets of legs come stampeding up the stairs. His two younger siblings appeared at the door, Ben holding Angelle's hand. The younger boy told Matt that it was almost time for supper. Nodding, Matt looked back down at his book, hoping to at least finish up the chapter. Instead, Angelle crawled on his bed and sat right in front of him, staring at his face.
Sighing, Matt put the book down and looked back at Angelle. “I'm guessing this means ya want me to come downstairs with ya?” He asked, a slightly annoyed look on his face. The little blond shook her head, pointing out the window instead. “Twampawine!” She stated, nodding emphatically.
Matt put his head to one side and gave his sister a confused look. He ran the word over in his mind a couple of times before he realized that Angelle was saying 'trampoline'. Shutting his book and getting off of his bed, he swung his sister into his arms and headed downstairs. “OK, Angel. But I'm not jumping with ya on my back this time.” He said, giving his sister a serious look. Angelle just nodded and clapped her hands, letting out a giggle. Matt grinned back at her and swung her up on his shoulders. The book could just wait until later. ANSWER: Poor Dobby. Basically, the whole book was a surprise. xD OTHER:
