{ About The CHARACTER }
x Julian Anthony Cartwright"Jules"
CANNON OR ORIGINAL: Original YEAR: Seventh AGE: Seventeen DOB: 2nd April, 1960 RACE: Caucasian (British) GENDER: Male SEXUALITY: Heterosexual WAND: Yew- eleven and a quarter inches with a phoenix tail feather core. Good for fire-related spells especially and for Dark Magic (though he's never used arcane magic). BROOM: A somewhat outdated Cleansweep which has a habit of moulting twigs when he's executed tight turns. PET: A rather unassuming brown owl named Brownie. Brownie the Owl has an irksome habit of squawking raucously whenever he's hungry, which has made Julian quite unpopular with the other residents of the Owlery.
APPEARANCE: Tall, blonde and gifted with a quick, cheeky smile, it's easy to see how Julian Cartwright has little trouble making good first impressions on all people, girls especially. He's not especially handsome in a conventional sense- rather, he possesses striking, hard-to-forget features which make him seem open and easy to get along with. At the same time, though, as a bit of a contradiction, he also manages to look mildly intimidating- an effect possibly caused by his stature. The height of 6'2" is not particularly imposing on its own. It is, in fact, quite commonplace amongst the Seventh Years of Hogwarts, but Julian has a way unbeknownst to everyone else of appearing taller than he actually is. Perhaps this is attributable to his physique- he's not classifiable as being buff, but he is leanly muscled and has a very athletic profile. This musculature is focused in particular around his arms, chest and abdomen, seeing as he is a dedicated boxer, but his previous years spent on his local track team have strengthened his legs as well. An oddity in his appearance is a tattoo that says 'Ramble On' which is located on his lower abdomen, a dedication to the song by Led Zeppelin. In reflection it was probably not one of his best ideas, but he views it as being a quirk and thus doesn't mind it much.
Julian's eyes are a peculiar shade of blue. They are neither light and icy, nor dark and unfathomable, sitting rather at an in-between that looks odd- out of place, even. It can be approximately described as sky blue, but Jules doesn't care much for specifics- especially not when it comes to the way he looks. His facial structure is pretty normal- its broad set gives him the look of an honest and easygoing person, which is not entirely true. His jaw is very square and masculine, and this, coupled with an expressive mouth, is perhaps one of his best features. The boy tends to wear his sandy coloured hair differently depending on the season. Winter sees a slightly shorter cut, whilst summer brings with it a longer hair length which for the most part rests casually and comfortably over his forehead, but has a habit of being swept about by the wind and jabbing him in the eyes. In terms of dress sense, Julian's half-muggle upbringing wins out. He can handle robes, since they're part of the school uniform and all, but honestly, he finds the idea of wearing them to town or out in public to be repugnant. Casual, comfortable muggle clothing is more flattering on him anyway. FACE CLAIM: Edward Speleers
PERSONALITY DESCRIPTION: Julian Cartwright's most noticeable personality trait is probably the near-tangible aura of boyishness that seems to surround him twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week. Classed by some as 'immaturity', it is, in fact, quite different. It is possibly best described as being the near-total incapability to take anything completely seriously. This natural penchant for levity, of course, gets him into a lot of trouble, with teachers and especially with girls, but over the course of his seven years at Hogwarts, people, for the most part, have grown used to his antics. With a quick, exuberant grin he can make most people forgive his trespasses and wrongdoings, and Julian looks upon this as being a sort of natural gift which should not go to waste, and indeed should be used as often as possible. He is, if anything, one of the most perpetually cheerful people in the grade, seemingly always smiling about something or other. This, coupled with his ability to get away with things and his odd, rakish charms, has pushed him strongly into the refined art of playing practical jokes. A bit boastfully, he takes an unnecessary amount of pride in the quality of these pranks that he plays, but it is true that his mischievous nature yields some impressive results. In fourth grade he positively wreaked havoc with indiscriminate pranks, but he now manages to exert extreme self control and his practical jokes are less and less frequent (or, as he would say, 'saved for special occasions').
With all his cheerfulness, he can't be described as a hothead in terms of temper, but there have been a number of occasions where annoyance has gotten the better of him- more's the pity for those who have irked him, since he is quite an enthusiastic boxer. Indeed, when he's angry, he's quite irrational and has been known to act before thinking, which is a trait probably inherited from his somewhat eccentric father. A half-Muggle, half-traditional-Pureblood upbringing sounds confusing to say the least, but it has provided Julian with a down-to-earth, practical nature which lurks predominantly hidden behind his outgoing playfulness, along with a passionate taste for Muggle music. His sensibility shows through though, quite often if one cares to observe carefully, and it's a useful trait to have when dealing with situations which require logical and strategic thinking. A downside to this practicality of his, however, is that he can be a little blunt when preoccupied. Normally he tries to be as aware of other people's feelings as he can be, but he, like most boys, isn't very good a multitasking and so when he's in a distracted frame of mind some rather blatantly insensitive things inevitably slip out. Unfortunately when he does accidentally wrong people this way, he often forgets to apologize, and this, along with seemingly every other personality trait that he has, causes some problems.
Naturally, his personality thus far points to the fact that he is an outrageous flirt. What exacerbates the problem is that he has no idea of this whatsoever. It's not because he's stupid, because, in fact, he's quite intelligent when he has to be, but because he is so used to being his normal, light-hearted self, he completely fails to notice that his jokes and repartee more often than not hover on the edge of being absolutely, blatantly flirtatious. It is probably an unspoken law amongst the girls of Hogwarts to never take Julian Cartwright's word seriously, but surprisingly he has managed to become popular. Obviously this must have something to do with his sense of humour and the fact that he's extremely approachable, because there's not too much else going for him. Then again, Julian is loyal and courageous, to the point where he seems downright obnoxious, so this may or may not aid his cause. He's also very competitive, not that there's much for him to be competitive about. He treats grades with indifference, after all, and he is not a Quidditch player, but there are some things which he simply has to win, whatever they may be. Julian is always honest, though, without exception. He doesn't try to hide some of his less likable traits and attributes- in fact, he flaunts them with a kind of blunt defiance, giving people no choice but to either accept him, or find him contemptible. It goes both ways, though. Sense of humour aside, if Julian doesn't like someone, they are sure to know. BOGGART: Himself, on a broom. PATRONUS: Buffalo HOPES FOR THE FUTURE: To be an Auror and manage a family at the same time.
SPECIAL ABILITIES: N/A BLOOD: Half-blood BIRTHPLACE: London, England MY FAMILY: Father - John Amadeus Cartwright Mother - Layla Cartwright [nee. Roberts] Older Sister - Jennifer Cartwright WHATS IN THE PAST: John Amadeus Cartwright was a young man fresh out of Hogwarts when he met Layla Roberts in none other than a coffee shop. It was a spot of good-natured flirting at first, because honestly, John was a Pureblood and Layla was a Muggle, but obviously Fate or some other force of attraction had foreordained that it would not be simply flirting, but something that would last. In retrospect, it was a rather whirlwind courtship in which John and Layla went out on actual dates perhaps only twice before John decided to get down on bended knee and present his love with his family heirloom- an engagement ring. Bad idea. His parents wouldn't hear of it, and a feud sprang up quite quickly in which John was threatened with being disowned quite a few times. Eventually, though, his parents accepted it- or perhaps they just grew sick of his persistence. Either way, they left John and Layla in peace- enough for their daughter Jennifer to be born, anyway. This virtually dispelled any discontent about John and Layla's marriage, since quite frankly, Jennifer's Pureblood grandparents found her to be absolutely enchanting. Three years later, though, the very much in love couple and their daughter's lives changed somewhat with a new addition to the family.
There was a storm wreaking havoc on April the 2nd, 1960, when Julian Anthony Cartwright was born to parents John and Layla. Perhaps unaware of its ironic significance, they gave him the name Julian and took him home to be acquainted with his older sister, who evidently found him to be acceptable. Julian's childhood was quite uneventful, apart from the near-fit that his father had when he found out that Jules did not want to pursue the sport of Quidditch, but favoured the Muggle sports of boxing and running instead. It took a great deal of convincing for John to relent, but Julian did get his way in the end, and never received any special training in flying apart from what was perfunctory and necessary. Before much time at all had passed, Julian was eleven and received his Hogwarts letter. This wasn't a surprise in the slightest to the boy, since his older sister had been admitted to the school a couple of years earlier. Frankly, he was quite dismayed by having to go to Hogwarts. He'd been rather enjoying only having to put up with his sister in the holidays. Of course, he loved her, but being young children, they were inclined to quarrelling a substantial amount and it was really that much more peaceful when she wasn't there.
He went, though, ruffled and grumbling, and soon forgot his protests about his sister. The school was good for him, changing staircases and Peeves the Poltergeist aside. For one, there were lots of other witches and wizards of his age, most of whom his energetic eleven year old self made friends with. Yes, he was quite popular from the very beginning. Also, it was a sense of freedom which he thoroughly enjoyed, even if classes were monotonous and the exams started coming in faster as the years rolled by. In Sixth Year he almost gave his mother a heart attack when he went home on the holidays and she happened to spot the tattoo that he'd acquired. After a rather blunt and unhelpful explanation that 'he and some mates' had all gotten tattoos together, his mother threatened him with quite a number of unpleasant things, but, as usual, Julian got his way and the tattoo stayed. Sometimes Julian is discontent with the fact that the only hugely major drama in his life was over a puny tattoo, but he supposes he has to be thankful that nothing incredibly bad has befallen his family.

RP EXAMPLE: So the past week had been full of unreasonable amounts of stress for Julian Cartwright. First there'd been the drama of trying to flirt with that new girl, the one with the pretty face but not much else going on upstairs. Needless to say, it hadn't gone astonishingly well and Julian had ended up with a delightfully red hand-print on the side of his face. That wasn't even the half of it, though. On his way out of a History of Magic exam, some not-so-bright Ravenclaw had decided to trip him for the hell of it. Well, at least that was what he was telling himself, because he certainly never recalled doing anything wrong to her. Then again, maybe she was one of Gloria's friends, deciding to be horrible to him because of some vicious lies (or, for that matter, truths) that the Spaniard had deemed worthy to spread. Whatever the real reason was, the outcome had not been good.
The Gryffindor only knew of one way to cheer himself up when things went wrong, and that was to re-acquaint himself with the delectable witches of the Playwizard magazines. He wasn't stupid enough to keep his magazines under his bed, unlike some of his dorm-mates (though, admittedly, such a thing would allow easy access, he supposed), but rather in the Room of Requirement, where everything was safe. Stealing a covert glance around his common room to make sure he wasn't being followed (as if such a thing would happen), Julian judged that the coast was clear before exiting through the portrait hole and making a beeline for the Room, which, conveniently, was on the same floor. I need my magazines, he thought in a rather straight forward manner, before grinning as the wall before him turned into a closet door.
Well, he'd thought it was funny at the time that he'd first stashed his magazines away the previous year. After all, broom closets had been a source of many memories for the blonde boy. Chuckling a little as he reminisced, Jules pushed the door open and smirked when he saw his pile of magazines sitting untouched in the room/closet corner. He picked one up, declaring, "Oh, yes, Miss Merlin, I have missed you too." After this was said, Julian sat down against one of the walls and began to read (or, rather, look). He was having quite the good time of it, too, until the door opened again quite abruptly. Before he could make sense of who or what had interrupted him so rudely, he was thrown backwards against the wall he'd been resting comfortably on a few seconds ago.
Something was pressing against his face- something soft, at least, but he was still worried that if it kept up for long he might suffocate. He soon realized that the person (because only people could swear like that, really) was a girl, because of her voice, and as she backed away he squinted into the darkness and asked, "Mouthy, aren't you?" He didn't have to squint for much longer, because he soon heard a click and the closet light was switched on, bringing into view Gloria MacAvoy. "It would be me," he agreed in a good natured way, making no move to really hide the magazines that were strewn all over the floor. "And it would be you, too, I suppose. Hello!" His composure broke and his blue eyes widened a little as Gloria tried the doorknob in an effort to escape him and it didn't turn. Great. She'd locked them in.
"Nice to know you're so happy to see me," he told her in a matter of fact fashion as she gave a long suffering sigh and apparently decided that he was worthy of some attention. Julian didn't know whether to be embarrassed or smug when Gloria caught sight of his magazines, and this feeling showed in the rather confused smirk which the Gryffindor shot at the Ravenclaw. "Not bloody hell, but rather, Busty Witch Beauties Weekly!" He tapped one of the more graphic magazines with a devilish smile, gave a sigh of contentment and then turned his gaze back to Gloria. "So, do you have a stash of magazines hidden in here too?" He questioned, maybe a little too hopefully if he was going to be honest with himself. He picked up one of his own open subscriptions, flapped it at her and added, "If you don't, we can share. Care to join?" ANSWER: >.< Entire book was awful. All the good characters died! OTHER: Led Zeppelin tattoo on his stomach.
