Mr. Norris droned on and on about special right triangles. We had already been through this a million times and it was too boring. I was doodling the name Carlisle into my note book. To tell the truth Carlisle is a fictional vampire that I have the biggest crush on! I love the Twilight series and I didn’t know I was going to fall into one of my own.
The door opened and it got Mr. Norris to stop talking so I was happy. I almost fainted when I saw who walked in. I heard the new guy was hott but I didn’t believe it. Whenever someone said a guy was hott it usually wasn’t in my taste. Sure they had the nice hair and shiny teeth but they were just Hollister guys.
This guy was one of the most gorgeous things I’ve ever seen. He had black hair that wasn’t spike up or anything but it stayed perfectly in place. He would have been just like the others if it wasn’t for the shirt he was wearing. It was a Linkin Park shirt that you could only get at the store every Abercrombie & Fitch guy would never tread into. I almost melted. This had to be the only guy I’d seen besides people in the marching band that shopped at Hot Topic.
This wouldn’t be such a big deal to any other girl because almost every girl at Rio Vista shopped at some store whose staff seemed to know when you shopped at Hot Topic and put you out on the spot. It was a big deal to me because anytime I went into Hollister or any other store like that everyone glared at me. So this, to me, was like a sign from the heavens.
Every other girl’s head snapped up and I put mine down. If he happened to be like all the others I wouldn’t want to seem like I was interested in him. Mr. Norris introduced him as Alex and then he went back to triangles. A sigh escaped my lips as I started to doodle again. This time I wasn’t able to think clearly. It was like having Alex in the same room messed my brain up. I couldn’t think at all.
One quick glance, I thought. One quick glance wouldn’t get me noticed by him. I looked up and froze. He was staring at me. There was something I couldn’t quiet identify in his eyes. It didn’t look like hate, more like a small annoyance. I couldn’t draw myself to look away. I felt kind of sorry because he had to sit with Carol Ann. I loved Carol Ann to death but she wasn’t the...um, what was I thinking. I couldn’t stop looking at him. He had the most gorgeous eyes. They were brown, but had green in them too.
“Patty…” I froze. Did he just say my name? “Patty!” I snapped out of my trance to see one of my best friends, Kimberley, looking at me. “Didn’t you hear me the first time?” I shook my head and didn’t look back at Alex. I didn’t want to get into another wonderful trance.
The rest of class went longer than ever but I finally heard the last bell and hurried out of the room. Kimberley walked with me to the band hall. “Did you know Alex was staring at you the whole time he was in class?” she asked, obviously excited.
I bit my lip. I knew he was looking at me the whole time. I had to wonder if there was something wrong with him. I had to admit that I wasn’t the prettiest girl in school, and why he would be interested in me boggled my mind. I nodded so Kimberley wouldn’t ask what I was thinking. “He was probably wondering why I wasn’t the only one looking at him when he first sat down…” I had looked at him after that.
“I think he likes you.” I sighed. Kimberley was really too eager about this. He didn’t like me, he was just thinking about how weird I was.
“No, he doesn’t. Just drop it.” I didn’t mean to be so snippy, but I really didn’t care. Oh, what the crap was I thinking? Of course I cared!
Then the Band Hall door creaked open. “Who likes Patty?” I sighed, obviously frustrated as Catie asked the question. I looked to Kimberley and nodded. She was going to talk about it anyway, so why deny her the chance?
“Alex, the new guy. He stared at her all the way through Geometry!” Catie was starting to get excited too so I started to get my things together. As soon as I put my bag down I started walking out of the Band Hall. I knew Catie and Kimberley were behind me chatting about my recent brush with the eyes of the angel from Hot Topic.
As soon as I opened the second door I felt something cool near my face. I looked to my right and let out a gasp. It was Alex. I almost fainted when I felt his cool breath on my cheek and was instantly intoxicated by it. Think, I reminded myself, think! “Um…Hello?” I could hear Catie and Kimberley giggling behind me.
Alex’s eyes were brooding, but somehow playful. “I’m Alex.” His voice was deep velvet and couldn’t have been more effective on me. I kept my focus, though.
“Really,” I added sarcastically “I thought you were the wicked witch of the west!” I walked past him determinedly. I thought I heard him growl as he caught up with me.
He stopped in front of me. How could anyone walk that fast? “Look,” he glared at me and I had no problem returning the look “I noticed your brother left and I wanted to give you a ride home.”
I scoffed “Bite me.” I didn’t know why I was being so difficult, but it felt great. Alex looked even better angry than he did when she first saw him.
I kept walking but soon felt something pull me back. I could feel his cool breath tickling the back of my neck. I couldn’t help but let myself shiver. “Where?”he whispered so only I could hear. Or did he even say it at all? I would have questioned him but he would play innocent. I blushed, suddenly wishing that Catie and Kimberley weren’t behind me. I turned toward him and noticed that with the sun reflecting off the floor he kind of glowed. It was probably just my imagination.
I glared at him. Again, I could feel his breath on my face and we both knew then who had won the battle.
I silently followed him out of the building, but he stopped in the shadows. I was puzzled. What was he waiting for? Finally, he started walking again when there was a cloud in front of the sun. I trailed behind him to the parking lot. I stopped and gasped. “Nice ride!” I had never seen any guys around here riding motorcycles. “How much did this cost?”
Alex scoffed “Does it matter?” I shook my head. He got on the motorcycle but I stayed on the ground, waiting for a helmet. He didn’t give me one. I was puzzled when he turned to look at me “Well, what are you waiting for?”
I glared at him, he wasn’t going to give me a helmet. “Some safety gear…” Alex glared back.
“You don’t need any,” he got off now “I’ve never been in a wreck-”
“Yet!” I added. Alex’s glare seemed to intensify.
“Just get on.” He said in a growl. I shook my head and stood my ground. “You’re being utterly idiotic…” he mumbled.
I flared “Excuse me for worrying about my safety!”
“Just get on the bike!” he yelled. I waited a moment, glaring at him. Usually I wouldn’t have let anyone talk to me like that but his face was even more stunning when it was contorted in anger. But again, I had lost this battle and I got on the bike silently.
